Steatite announce new MIL-STD-810F embedded system for in-vehicle connectivity

February 24th, 2010

The new ICP-PES2041M is an extremely rugged, fanless embedded solution designed for use in vehicle-based computing applications such as mobile tracking, navigation and communications. Features include GPS, 3.5G mobile wireless, 4x serial ports, isolated digital I/O and PCI expansion.

Based on the ever popular Intel Atom N270 CPU and 945GSE chipset, power consumption is kept to a minimum without sacrificing the functionality of the device. Integration with the ignition system of the vehicle means the PC can be set to operate only when required, preventing discharge of the vehicle battery when the engine is not running.

The cable-free design results in an embedded system highly tolerant to external shock and vibration and certified to MIL-STD-810F, making it ideal for use in commercial vehicles such as waste trucks or emergency vehicles.

With a wide range of integrated connectivity, such as isolated digital I/O, RS232/485, optional Wi-Fi, USB, Gigabit LAN and optional CAN-bus, the ICP-PES2041M includes all of the I/O that would be required in an in-vehicle computer system, making for a neat, compact and robust installation.

Combined with a customised Windows Embedded Standard 2009/7 O/S installation, the ICP-PES2041M can be configured to perform only the functions that are preapproved by the system designer and prevent unauthorised software from being run on the device. WES 2009/7 also includes a number of features to enhance system reliability, such as the enhanced write filter which protects the system against ‘dirty’ shutdowns caused by power loss to the system.

New embedded chassis for security applications

September 25th, 2009

We have just designed and launched a compact multifunction Mini-ITX chassis that is ideal for use in security applications. The Pack Box SEC will support a full range of Mini-ITX boards including those based on high end, power hungry quad core CPUs.

The chassis includes options for internal 3G, Wi-Fi and PCI or PCI Express cards (dependant on board used). It has multiple storage configurations including 4x removable 2.5″ hard drives (or 1x removable 3.5″ HDD) for video or data capture, with a further 2x 2.5″  (or 1x 3.5″) drives internally for operating system installation.

Measuring just 24×24x13cm, it is small enough to hide almost anywhere, and being designed in house, we can guarantee long term supply

1080p H264 video on tiny long life embedded board

September 16th, 2009

1080p video playback has traditionally demanded fairly high end, power hungry PC hardware. With the recent introduction of the VIA P720 Pico-ITX board, it is now possible to play 1080p video in various formats (inc H264) on a 10×7.2cm industrial board with a fanless 1GHz CPU that consumes <10W. Because the VX855 chipset takes care of the video decoding, the CPU is free to perform other tasks in the background.

The P720 is primarily targeted at use in digital signage applications where reliability and low heat/power consumption is important. Combined with Windows Embedded it offers and extremely robust and low maintenance solution.

If you are interested in discussing this solution further, please call us on 01527 406 895 or drop us an email at sales@icp-uk.com

Steatite become Microsoft Windows Embedded Gold Partners

August 9th, 2009

Steatite has been awarded Gold Partner status – one of only four companies in the UK to achieve the standard. The award is reserved for companies showing the highest level of competence and expertise with Microsoft technologies. This capability combined with an excellent range of hardware allows Steatite-Embedded to offer a full embedded turnkey solution.

Steatite-Embedded specialises in the supply of long-life embedded solutions, custom systems and other related products to business and industrial customers. The achievement of Gold Level Partner status is recognition of the company’s ability to demonstrate excellence in the design, build and support of these products. Micorsoft Gold Partners have ongoing access to a valuable set of benefits, including technical and marketing resources, training and support, access to a Microsoft technical services coordinator and to the Partner Knowledge Base. Steatite-Embedded will now also have priority listing in Microsoft directories and several other top-level benefits.
Partner level participation starts at Registered Level, with additional resources available to Silver Level and Gold Level participants. Windows Embedded Partners must meet certain requirements in order to maintain their registered gold status.

Commenting on the award and what it means to Steatite’s customers, Ashley Shone, Product Manager, for Steatite-Embedded said: “Steatite is very proud of this achievement and the speed with which it was obtained; going from registered partner to gold in just 18 months is unheard of in the Microsoft Embedded Partner Program. We have set the bar very high and will continue to push boundaries and excel wherever possible.”
