April 14-15 delivered a busy week for the Steatite Team at the 2010 Counter Terror show

April 14-15 delivered a busy week for the Steatite Team at the 2010 Counter Terror show.

The official show figures have revealed that over a two day period an excess of 6900 attendees passed through Olympia’s National Hall doors. This show has enabled the team to meet many of our current customers while receiving new interest from visitors who approached us with specific requirements and technical questions, which resulted in a whole series of project ideas.

Attending on the Steatite stand was Mike Mountfield, Paul Edwards, Sebastian Leaver and Debbie Reed. The Team experienced two extremely busy days at the Olympia Exhibition centre in London.

Due to the unprecedented demand from the sector, the Counter Terror Expo will move to the much larger Grand Hall of London’s Olympia Exhibition and Conference Centre in 2011.

Debbie Reed Marketing Manager for Steatite comments:

“This was our first time exhibiting at the show. Although very hard work, the general consensus of opinion from the team was that it was a great success and we were so impressed that we have booked a space at the next Counter Terror show planned for April 2011.”

It is a little known fact that Microsoft have an embedded server range, and those that do know of it tend not to really understand how it can benefit their solution.

When designing an embedded solution it is very easy to spend many hours and much of your budget designing your end point client device and leave all thoughts of the server that will be running these devices until the last minute when it is often too late to evaluate products correctly.

This can often lead to a poor choice in hardware and software and potentail weaknesses in your embedded solution.

The overall reliability of any computer system is dictated by the weakest part in the chain; if you are designing a system that is going to in a dirty environment and you spend your budget designing a bullet proof embedded node but use an off the shelf commercial server you should expect this to be the part of the solution that fails.

The same theory applies with software, if you have spent time and money designing application software to run within a specific environment which meets very specific critirea, would you not wish to be sure this is not only the running on the correct operating system that offers adequate perfromance and security, but also offers the longevity of supply you require?

It is a little known fact that Microsoft have an embedded server range, and those that do know of it tend not to really understand how it can benefit their solution.

Selecting the correct Microsoft Embedded Server O/S at the out set will enable you to develop your software and embedded solution safe in the knowledge that not only do you have the correct technology to back you up, but also that you will be able to obtain this technology for as long as required.

Why not contact us on 01527 406895 to discuss your requirements in more detail.

Steatite Embedded are proud to announce the launch of their new server range.

After many years being the UK’s number 1 for x86 based embedded solutions Steatite Embedded have built up a wealth of knowledge on embedded technologies and the specific requirements of customers who require such solutions.

Using our experience in the embedded market allows us to realise that whilst some customers need to move with the latest technologies many customers have invested time and money developing for a set platform do not wish to re-invest in migrating technologies.

The new ICP-PES2041M is an extremely rugged, fanless embedded solution designed for use in vehicle-based computing apps. Includes GPS, 3.5G, RS232/485 & DIO

The new ICP-PES2041M is an extremely rugged, fanless embedded solution designed for use in vehicle-based computing applications such as mobile tracking, navigation and communications. Features include GPS, 3.5G mobile wireless, 4x serial ports, isolated digital I/O and PCI expansion.

Based on the ever popular Intel Atom N270 CPU and 945GSE chipset, power consumption is kept to a minimum without sacrificing the functionality of the device. Integration with the ignition system of the vehicle means the PC can be set to operate only when required, preventing discharge of the vehicle battery when the engine is not running.

The cable-free design results in an embedded system highly tolerant to external shock and vibration and certified to MIL-STD-810F, making it ideal for use in commercial vehicles such as waste trucks or emergency vehicles.

With a wide range of integrated connectivity, such as isolated digital I/O, RS232/485, optional Wi-Fi, USB, Gigabit LAN and optional CAN-bus, the ICP-PES2041M includes all of the I/O that would be required in an in-vehicle computer system, making for a neat, compact and robust installation.

Combined with a customised Windows Embedded Standard 2009/7 O/S installation, the ICP-PES2041M can be configured to perform only the functions that are preapproved by the system designer and prevent unauthorised software from being run on the device. WES 2009/7 also includes a number of features to enhance system reliability, such as the enhanced write filter which protects the system against ‘dirty’ shutdowns caused by power loss to the system.

We have just designed and launched a compact multifunction Mini-ITX chassis that is ideal for use in security applications. The Pack Box SEC will support a full range of Mini-ITX boards including those based on high end, power hungry quad core CPUs.

The chassis includes options for internal 3G, Wi-Fi and PCI or PCI Express cards (dependant on board used). It has multiple storage configurations including 4x removable 2.5″ hard drives (or 1x removable 3.5″ HDD) for video or data capture, with a further 2x 2.5″ (or 1x 3.5″) drives internally for operating system installation.

Measuring just 24×24x13cm, it is small enough to hide almost anywhere, and being designed in house, we can guarantee long term supply
